ICM Intern - Fall 2026 (UNPAID)

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is looking for an Intensive Case Management (ICM) Intern for Fall 2026. This is an unpaid position that supports refugees with severe physical or mental health conditions, the elderly, single-headed households, primary caregivers, and victims of sexual assault and gender-based violence. The intern works closely with ICM and Supplemental Case Management (SCM) caseworkers to help these clients navigate their first five years of resettlement in the U.S. The IRC was founded in 1933 at the call of Albert Einstein. It is one of the world's largest humanitarian non-governmental organizations, operating in more than 40 countries and 29 U.S. cities. The organization provides emergency relief, protection, rehabilitation assistance, resettlement services, and advocacy for refugees and victims of crisis or violent conflict. The ICM program operates in 29 offices across the IRC's U.S. network, focusing on the most vulnerable refugees who need extra support to achieve self-sufficiency. Day to day, the intern checks in on clients' well-being, helps with intakes and assessments, develops individualized plans, and provides transportation to appointments. The work involves educating clients on the U.S. healthcare and benefits systems, coordinating with community partners, and keeping thorough case file documentation. It is hands-on, client-facing work that requires flexibility and a genuine interest in the refugee community. This role is a good fit for students or recent graduates in social work, public health, international relations, or related fields who want direct experience in refugee resettlement. It is unpaid, so it works best for someone who can volunteer their time while gaining practical case management experience. The position reports to the SCM Caseworker.
