Communication & Media Coordinator

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is hiring a Communication & Media Coordinator to lead its public engagement work in Chad, based in the capital N'Djamena with frequent travel throughout the country. This role oversees the production of all communication materials, manages media relations at the national level, and positions IRC as a leading humanitarian actor in Chad. The coordinator supervises a small team including a Communication and Media Officer, communication interns, and service providers, reporting directly to the Country Director. IRC has operated in Chad since 2004, responding initially to the Darfur refugee crisis and now delivering integrated programs across health, reproductive health, nutrition, water and sanitation, protection, women's empowerment with a focus on gender-based violence, and economic recovery through cash transfers and income-generating activities. The organization works closely with government stakeholders and line ministries to align its actions with national policies. This position is central to telling the story of that work to national audiences, donors, and the media. Founded in 1933 at the call of Albert Einstein, IRC is one of the world's largest humanitarian NGOs, operating in more than 40 countries and 29 U.S. cities. The organization helps people survive conflict and disaster and rebuild their lives, with a workforce of thousands delivering programs that restore health, safety, education, and economic wellbeing. The Chad office is part of this global network, coordinating with headquarters communication teams while maintaining its own national strategy. The position is unaccompanied, meaning the staff member lives in shared housing without family, and operates in a yellow phase security context, which indicates elevated risk requiring specific security protocols. N'Djamena is a bustling Sahelian capital where French is the working language, and the role demands excellent command of both French and English. The work involves regular field visits to project sites across the country, often in remote areas where IRC delivers services to refugee and host communities.
