Team Lead

The International Rescue Committee (IRC) is recruiting a Team Leader for a major humanitarian project in Sudan, funded by the UK Foreign, Commonwealth and Development Office (FCDO). The project is expected to run from October 2026 for 2.5 years, and this position is contingent on the bid being successful. The Team Leader will oversee the entire programme, which aims to reduce conflict-driven mortality, morbidity, and protection risks by helping vulnerable people access lifesaving multi-sector humanitarian assistance in a highly constrained operating environment. The IRC has a long history in Sudan. It was present from 1981 to 2009, then re-registered in November 2019 and opened a main office in Khartoum, with programming starting in 2020. In 2024, it expanded into non-SAF-controlled regions of Darfur and South Kordofan. The organization is currently operational in Al Jazeera, White Nile, Gedaref, River Nile, Blue Nile, South Kordofan, West Darfur, Central Darfur, and North Darfur states, including a satellite office in Tunaydbah in Gedaref. The IRC focuses on vulnerable individuals impacted by conflict and crisis, including women, children, the elderly, persons with disabilities, refugees, mixed populations, and host communities. The context is dire. Since war broke out in April 2023 between the Sudanese Armed Forces (SAF) and the Rapid Support Forces (RSF), over 12 million people have been displaced across all 18 states. More than 30 million people now require humanitarian assistance, and around 25 million face acute food insecurity, including 770,000 children suffering from severe acute malnutrition. Damage to infrastructure, supply shortages, and restricted humanitarian access continue to hinder the response. The IRC has scaled up its efforts despite these immense challenges, supporting Sudanese communities both within the country and across national borders. The IRC itself was founded in 1933 at the call of Albert Einstein and is one of the world's largest international humanitarian NGOs, working in more than 40 countries and 29 U.S. cities. Its mission is to restore health, safety, education, economic wellbeing, and power to people devastated by conflict and disaster. Working in Sudan means operating in one of the most complex and devastating humanitarian crises in the world today, with significant security risks, logistical hurdles, and restricted access. The role requires someone who can manage multiple stakeholders, navigate high-risk environments, and deliver results under extreme pressure.
